The Mary Mostenic Award for Composition

This scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of a part-time composition instructor who devoted forty-seven years of outstanding teaching to the Department of English at The University of Akron.

Prize: TBD, but historically between $100-$250.

Who can enter:

• Nominees are chosen because of their noteworthy writing in a composition course at the university. Students who have been nominated for the award will be contacted by their instructor.

Submission Requirements 

• ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN NOMINATED BY THEIR INSTRUCTOR MAY ENTER. Do not upload a submission if you have not been contacted by your instructor with a letter of nomination.
• The submission window is February 25,2026 at 12:00 am until March 16, 2026 at 5:00 pm.
